For the excellence of the selected works in the 2nd Edition of the Festival di Palazzo Venezia_Music, the Jury has decided on the following awards:

1st Overall Prize for best documentary

Breaking the Rules. Across American Counterculture

The documentary portrays the evolutionary moment in the literary and popular music history of the United States, spanning from the Beat Generation and the poetry and romance of Jazz, to the revolution of Bebop. The film captures the passage of a culture from being official to being alternative; the awakening of a rebellion which marked on of the most creative and autonomous seasons in music and literature history.


1st Prize for best documentary competing in the Music Category

Maria Bethania. Musica e perfume

The film manages to enter the most intimate creative sphere of a great musician, truthfully revealing her essence.


1st Prize for best documentary competing in the All About Dancing Category

Saburo Tshigawara, danser l’invisible

Francia | 2005
For the in-depth and extraordinarily non-invasive communication generated by Elisabeth Coronel in relation to the poetry of choreographer Saburo Teshigawara.
The artist transfers himself traditional culture of the sense of touch, to the contemporary multisensoriality where “movement is the forming force” of space. A dance which, beyond being an art of aesthetic, is most of all one of existence.


1st Prize for best documentary competing in the Folk, Pop & Jazz Category

L’UOMO CHE SCONFISSE IL BOOGIE. Le avventure di Secondo Casadei

Shortly after the 50th anniversary of Romagna Mia, this documentary skillfully evokes the roots of this region’s folk music, simultaneously portraying the political climate in which it took place.


Prize for Best Photography

The author proposes a new media take on filmmaking, particularly innovative in its way of connecting, through the dynamicity of dance, different environments composed of different materiality, water, earth, space. These habitats are experienced by the dancers in an interesting plastic transformation, while different movements of the body are reinterpreted by the body in its new state.

For the rapid succession of images, in continuous coincidence with a musical storyline which is tightly bound to our times.

For the ability to convey not only the beauty of Maria Bethania’s songs, but also to capture the secret moment of her birth.


Prize for Most Innovative Work

For the spontaneous, free, and never banal way in which the musician manages to recount a musical and exploratory voyage, with a simple hand-held camera.


Special Mention of the Jury

Generation Yamakasi

A special mention is awarded to this film, for its concrete and emotional presentation of the new proactive behaviors undertaken by the inner-city youths of Paris.


Special Prize of Regione Lazio, awarded to the two best films of the Spirito del Tempo Category
