Hereafter è una retrospettiva sulla vita e l'opera di Glenn Gould. Basato su una sintesi di tutta la documentazione esistente su Gould, sia musicale sia letteraria, il film contempla il suo genio e come esso viene interpretato dal suo pubblico, un pubblico che si estende di gran lunga oltre il concetto di semplice audience musicale. Il film è realizzato con la collaborazione di anonimi discepoli di Gould, con cui Gould stesso sembra interloquire.

Hereafter is a retrospective of the life and work of Gould, seen from today's point of view. Based a synthesis of all the documents existing on Gould, whether of a musical or of a literary and intellectual nature, this film strives to deal with the question of Gould's genius such as it is perceived by his audience, an audience that extends far beyond the strict notion of a musical audience. It is made with the
partecipation of anonymous disciples, making it seems as if Gould himself was answering their questions; meanwhile, Gould appears as the master of the narration of the film.
