PLANNED PROGRAM
Festival di Palazzo Venezia_Music is an international award competition of films and documentaries on music, dance and singing of all types.
Festival di Palazzo Venezia_Music has been conceived by the President Carlo Fuscagni, the artistic director Rubino Rubino and the consultant Claudio Strinati. The staff are supported and sponsored by Soprintendenza Speciale - Polo Museale Romano, Claudio Strinati; Regione Lazio - Assessorato alla Cultura, Spettacolo, Sport e Turismo, Giulia Rodano; Provincia di Roma - Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali, della Comunicazione e dei Sistemi Informativi, Vincenzo Vita; Comune di Roma - Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali, Dipartimento Cultura Ufficio Spettacolo, Gianni Borgnia; SNGCI Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani (Italian cinematographic Journalists’ association), Laura Delli Colli.
The Festival is organized in collaboratio with: Anica, Fondazione CSC – Cineteca Nazionale, Istituto Luce and Rai Teche.
Festival di Palazzo Venezia_Music takes place every year and it is conceived and arranged by the non-profit association Doc Fest. The second edition will be held from 8th to 29th September in Palazzo Venezia.
This year Festival di Palazzo Venezia_Music (International exhibition of films and documentaries on music and dance) and Festival di Palazzo Venezia_Art (International Festival of films and documentaries on art, architecture, cinema and theatre) will be held together in one greater and unique event.
Palazzo Venezia Museum will be, for a fortnight a memorable place where the most important documentaries on art, architecture, music, cinema, dance and drama produced in the last three years will be screened.
Political and cultural institutions had shown a lot of interest in our project and we have already extended through these contacts the mission of the Festival in the world of music, culture and communication.
We have started a dialectic debate between music and documentaries production thus giving voice to a huge international creative device.
Our competition will be an enhancer to start new national productions which will be competitive in the international world.
THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Festival di Palazzo Venezia_Music has three award categories:
1. MUSIC: documentaries and films on classical music, biographies of relevant authors, stories about music, documentaries on musical instrument manufactorers, documentaries on sound experiments, documentaries on projects and building of music halls, audio-visuals on exhibitions about music, history of classical music, and ethnomusicology.
2. DANCE: documentaries and films on ballet, modern and contemporary dance, backstage, staging, choreography, events, ballet/opera/drama crossover productions.
3. FOLK, POP & JAZZ: films on pop music, as instrument of social contacts and meetings. Documentaries on events, concerts, backstage from the world of pop, rock, jazz, folk and new frontiers of films on music, ethnic music, folk, street music, ballroom and acrobatic dance, etc.
SPECIAL SECTION OUT OF COMPETITION “A WORLD OF MUSIC”: in addition to the sections listed, the commission has decided to build a special section called A world of music, which will include films not selected for competition but deemed worthy of attention.
All the films submited must be produced between 2003 to nowadays.
An international Jury consisting of seven eminent personalities representing the world of culture, music, journalism and show-business will award the following prizes:

SPECIAL PRIZE “REGIONE LAZIO” will be assigned to the two best works of the special section out of competition “A World of Music”.
RELATED EVENTS
The Festival will also present 3 related events with materials taken from: Rai Teche, Istituto Luce and Fondazione CSC - Cineteca Nazionale.
EVENTS
Every evening at 9 pm a special event will be arranged and directors, filmmakers, producers, will be guested. Films and documentaries will be screened. Performances, concerts, presentations, social events will be arranged.
During the closing evening the best film of the competition will be awarded with the “Luna d’oro”.
ARCHIVE
Last, but not least the core of our project: the birth of the Archive of the Festival di Palazzo Venezia /Gioco del Lotto-Lottomatica which will be a permanent connection on our territory between the world of culture and education.
The copies of the films and videos of every festival held in Palazzo Venezia (more than 400 are expected for this year) will be kept into two archives which will soon become the biggest video archive in Italy on these themes.
The archives could be widened by international exchanges and two new videot libraries will be opened to the public and to schools. The video libraries will become permanent structures not only for educational purposes, but also available for contests, exhibitions and meetings.
These archives will be stored in Rome in Palazzo Venezia in cooperation with Soprintendenza Speciale al Polo Museale Romano and Ercolano (Naples) in MAV (Museo Archeologico Virtuale) in cooperation with Comune di Ercolano, Provincia di Napoli and Regione Campania.
ORGANISATION OF THE FESTIVAL
The President Carlo Fuscagni enriches the Festival with his 30-year of working experience in the field of cinema and television; Claudio Strinati will establish the selection criteria with scientific parameters both for videos and films in the competition and for the siding events. He will also analyze the historical and cultural coherence of the projects.
Rubino Rubini the artistic director is an art and culture documentarist and he will select videos, documentaries, he will also take care of the exhibitions and their retrospectives.
Carla Pilla is responsible for the logistic direction; Simonetta Cristiano is responsible for the selection of the films in competition and Veronica Fragola for the artistic coordination, the finding materials and the catalogue editing.
An international Jury will consist of seven eminent personalities representing the world of music, culture, dance, show-business and communication.
The films and documentaries will be pre-selected by a committee of experts headed by Simonetta Cristiano.
Films and documentaries of the side events will be chosen by Anna Maria Cerrato, in cooperation with Edoardo Ceccuti, director of Istituto Luce archive, Gabriele Testi, director of Cineteca Nazionale Centro sperimentale di fotografia, and Sandra Eichberg manager of Customer service Cineteca RAI.
There will be television broadcasts, news, and apparitions of the Festival in cultural and entertainment programs on the Italian TV networks RAI and Mediaset.
Veronica Fragola will find films and documentaries which would be admitted to the selection through her contacts with televisions, productions, foundations, theatres, dance academies and companies, international festivals, IFED, MIP, the Prix Italia nad the filmmaker’s associations. |
